Universal Health Care-Unfortunately, with the end of the 2007 legislative session having gone by, it appears that the General Assembly’s legislative leader’s commitment to universal health care was closer to an empty promise than a real desire to bring health security to CT’s families. The giant insurance companies were successful in their efforts to stop real health care reform by spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbying despite a December poll that showed 84% of Connecticut voters favored universal health care.

On one of the busiest days of the year at the state Capitol, 22
demonstrators were arrested Friday as they called for universal health
care and a single-payer health system.

The activists were taken into custody at various locations throughout the
building, prompting the heaviest police presence at the Capitol this year.

Put Patients First

My husband is collaborating with researchers from Canada, Finland and Sweden. During a visit from the group, we all went out to dinner. All at the table, other than us, were covered by health care systems in their countries that provide universal coverage of high quality to everyone at 50 percent to 60 percent of the U.S. cost.
